China publicises human rights action plan

Beijing -  China Monday publicized an action plan to protect human rights.

The plan, published by the information office of the State Council, is for the period 2012-2015. The previous one was for 2009-2010.

Due to the "influences and limitations of natural, historical, cultural and economic factors, China still faces challenges in the development of its human rights cause".

"It should be remembered that China remains a developing country fraught with problems from unbalanced, uncoordinated and unsustainable development," the document says.

The plan will be a crucial for the country to improve its human rights situation, deepening reform and accelerating economic growth, China Daily reported.

The country will "prioritize people's rights to subsistence and development", and safeguard and improve people's livelihood, the document says.

The government will provide financial support for construction of schools and rebuild religious venues in Tibetan-inhabited areas.
