New York - Former Indian-origin Rutgers student Dharun Ravi, who has been given a 30-day jail sentence for web-streaming his gay roommate's encounter with his date, is expected to get out of the jail early.
Ravi, 20, could be released on Tuesday, after serving 20 of his 30-day sentence, from the Middlesex County Jail.
He was found guilty of bias intimidation and invasion of privacy after he filmed gay roommate Tyler Clementi's tryst with another man.
Ravi was also sentenced to do 300 hours of community service and pay 10,000 dollars to assist bias-crime victims.
According to CBS News, Ravi began his 30-day sentence with five days of credit for good behavior and five days of credit for working.
He must also pay a 10,000 dollars assessment to the probation department in increments of 300 dollars per month beginning August 1.
The money will go to groups that support victims of bias crimes.
Meanwhile, prosecutors are asking an appeals court for a longer sentence while Ravi is appealing his conviction.
