Landslides kill 30 in southern Bangladesh

Rescuers say landslides caused by heavy monsoon rains have killed at least 30 people in southern Bangladesh.

Government official Saiful Islam said rescuers are searching for bodies of several people missing since the slides late Tuesday and early Wednesday. The bodies of 30 adults and children have been recovered.

The slides occurred after three days of rain in the region. Huge chunks of earth and mud buried several flimsy huts at the foot of hills in Bandarban district.

The area is 248 kilometers (155 miles) southeast of the capital, Dhaka.
