London -  Irvin Gordon, a Volvo owner who has maintained his spot in the Guinness Book of Records for the past decade, is close to reaching an amazing three million miles in his vehicle. Gordon, a retired school teacher from Long Island, New York, who has been driving his beloved Volvo P1800S since 1966, bought it for 4,150 dollars, then equivalent to 1,480 pounds, which

was a year's salary when he was 25, and he is now 72, and still drives the car everywhere.

It took him 21 years to reach the first million miles and 15 more years to reach two million in 2002, and now he has just 34,000 miles to go to before he reaches the epic three million mark.

"I have had coffee in every state. I am my own travel channe l," the Daily Express quoted Gordon, as saying.

Irvin believes the incredible car will just keep going and going.

"I have a feeling I'll be dead long before the car," he said.

Irvin, who has held the Guinness World Record mark for a high mileage vehicle since 2002, was the first person to achieve the record and has driven the equivalent of nearly 1,176 times  around the globe.
