Iran calls for Oscar boycott over protest against anti-Islam film

Washington - Iran has called for a boycott of the Oscars unless the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences condemns the anti-Islamic film that has sparked outraged in the Middle East.

Te state-run media quoted Javad Shamaghdari, who leads Iran's government-controlled film agency, as saying that Iran should 'avoid' the Academy Awards until AMPAS denounces 'Innocence of Muslims,' Politico reports.

The film has been held responsible for a wave of protests and attacks on U.S. consulates overseas.

The movie is also thought to be the reason for the death of US Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans, in the Libyan city of Benghazi.

Meanwhile, a Los Angeles judge denied a request by one of the film's actresses, Cindy Lee Garcia, to have the film's trailer removed from YouTube.

Garcia claimed that filmmaker Nakoula Basseley Nakoula misled her and other actors about the nature of the film.
