World's oldest malt whiskey on sale in UK

London, Mar. 12 (ANI): Fifty-four bottles of the world's oldest malt whisky - each priced at 10,000-pounds - went on sale in the UK on Thursday.

The Mortlach 70-year-old Speyside was sampled by a select group of tasters in a ceremony at Edinburgh Castle, The Guardian reports.

Only 54 full-size bottles and 162 smaller bottles, priced at 2,500 pounds, are available for buyers.

The whisky has been released under Gordon and MacPhail's Generations brand.

According to the firm's joint managing directors, David and Michael Urquhart, the whiskey was filled into its cask on 15 October 1938 at the order of their grandfather John Urquhart.

And 70 years later, the decision was made to empty the cask and bottle its contents.

The Urquharts describe it as a malt "without comparison."

"This is a very special day for us - one we've literally been anticipating for generations," the said.

"Our family has been in the whisky business for a long time, with each generation building and handing on a lifetime's expertise to the next," they added. (ANI)
