Kidnapped Brit toddler's father under scanner for plotting abduction in Pak

London, Mar.12 (ANI): A new twist has emerged in the case of the kidnapped five year-old British boy Sahil Saeed , who was abducted from his grandmother's house in Pakistan's Punjab province, with investigating officials suggesting that they are probing theories of a family rift as the cause behind the toddler's kidnapping.

According to witnesses, Sahil's father, Raja Saeed, was escorted away by men in suits" when he reached passport control at Manchester airport.

Earlier, Raja's family members in Oldham had said that they were not aware of his plans to return to Britain.

Meanwhile, officials in Jhelum, Punjab, said they are investigating the role of an insider in the kidnapping.

"Family involvement is the key issue now. We think it is an inside job. Sahil's father has left in haste, which indicates there is something wrong. We are investigating that he might be trying to torture his wife mentally," The Sun quoted a Pakistani police official, as saying.

Sources close to the family had earlier revealed that Sahil had travelled to Pakistan with his father after a row between his parents that left his mother Akila Naqqash stranded in their Oldham home, allegedly without her passport.

Family elders in Jhelum had encouraged a rapprochement between the couple, and the father and son were preparing to fly home when the kidnapping occurred.

On Thursday, media reports said that Sahil has been found and is returning to London with his father and Pakistan's High Commissioner to Britain Wajid Hasan  also confirmed the news only to backtrack later.

"Now, I've come to know that there's confusion about it so I don't want to make further comments," Hasan told a foreign news agency minutes after he confirmed the recovery of the British toddler.

British diplomats in Pakistan and London said they were urgently checking the reports, but police in Jehlum said they could not confirm he had been located.

Earlier, Pakistan's Law Minister Babar Awan had revealed that Sahil has been found.

Awan said the toddler was found yesterday, but news of his freedom had been kept quiet for safety reasons. (ANI)
