Seemingly unfazed at being ousted from the Asian Athletics Association, scam-tainted Suresh Kalmadi on Monday said losing the presidential re-election bid to Qatar’s Dahlan Jumaan Al-Hamad has actually given him a chance to work at the “grassroots” level.
“I have no issues today and I congratulate Mr Al-Hamad for being elected as President. I am rather relieved that I will be able to work at the grassroots level in athletics,” Mr. Kalmadi said after losing the vote during the ongoing AAA Congress in Pune.

US delegation commends Pak's efforts in war against terrorism

Rawalpindi - A five-member US Congressional delegation, led by Senator Joe Donnelly, has commended Pakistan's efforts, role and support in the war against terrorism.

According to said a press release, the US delegation called on Defence Secretary (retired) Lt Gen Asif Yasin Malik in Rawalpindi, and discussed important issues relating to bilateral ties. The meeting was also attended by US Ambassador Richard Olson, reports The Dawn.

Senator Donnelly also paid tribute to the spirit of sacrifice of the armed forces.

The meeting focused on matters relating to regional security. Both sides emphasised on improving security environment and overcoming security challenges along the Pak-Afghan border.

Donnelly observed that ties between the two countries had improved after the Salala incident.

Malik stressed the importance of smooth transition in Afghanistan, saying there should be a synergy of joint efforts to support reconciliation, capacity building and necessary assistant towards successful transition of power and security responsibilities, leading up to draw down of international forces.
