Malaysian Home Ministry unit to vet net postings soon

Kuala Lumpur(ANI) - The Malaysian Home Ministry has plans to set up a special unit to monitor sensitive postings on the Internet, including Facebook, the social networking site.

The New Strait Times quoted Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein as saying that the unit would also keep an eye on high-profile cases and current issues which were being sensationalized.

He said the decision to form the unit was made at the ministry's post-cabinet meeting earlier this week.

"They will monitor the social networking sites, among others, with the help of experts from the police, Attorney-General's Chambers and judiciary department. We cannot let the ministry handle everything alone," Hussein said after attending a "Takbir Hari Raya Aidilfitri" recording with Narcotic Addiction Rehabilitation Centre (Puspen) inmates in Sungai Besi.
