Outrage over Brit-Asian senior council officer's 'Servants need a slap' comment

London (ANI) - The comments made by a British-Asian senior council officer, Rehana Mohamed, claiming that it is acceptable for employers to slap their servants, has outraged citizens who thought her "stupid remarks were unacceptable."

She made the remarks on Tweeter after watching a television programme 'Britain's Secret Slaves'- a debate on the abuse of foreign domestic workers exploited by wealthy families, and called it "self-righteous."

"Oh this is so self-righteous. That bloody maid needs a good slap. Some people here have no idea what it's like having servants," she tweeted.

"Damn right they should get up and make what you want. That's their job. We never let out female servants for their own safety," she added.

Cllr Ann John, leader of London based Brent Council, where Rehana works as a strategic change management consultant, expressed strong opposition to her comments, saying they were totally "unacceptable."

"I find it unacceptable she made a joke like that. I feel very strongly about this issue. It's a set of stupid remarks," the Daily Mail quoted her, as saying.

People were reportedly shocked to hear such comments from somebody who is working on policy on a council like Brent, which needs to be sensitive to such issues.

Mohamed, however, apologised later saying, "I sincerely apologise if I offended anybody with my remarks. I realise that my remarks were insensitive and I am very sorry for the flippant way I commented on a serious issue."

A reported 15,000 domestic workers flood annually into the UK with many paid less than 50 pounds a week to work 20-hour days.
