London - A four-year-old boy in Britain has been suspended from school, because teachers claim that his David Beckham-style hair is too extreme.
Kain Ball was sent back home on Friday and his mum was informed that he could join back only when his hair has been trimmed.
The head at Wyken Primary School in Coventry, West Mids, said that his mini-mohawk hairstyle, modelled on Beckham’s do is against school policy.
But autistic Ball is terrified of having his hair changed, so his hairdresser mum Hannah, had to leave the style as it is.
“Because he’s autistic, it’s difficult to find anything to make him happy. His hair makes him happy, so why should it be taken away,†the Sun quoted Hannah as saying.
“The head said it’s too extreme, that it was against school policy, and that when Kain joined the school I signed an agreement that pupils aren’t allowed extreme hair.
“Kain’s hair is not extreme. It would be extreme if his hair had five-inch spikes and was dyed green.
“I’ve asked other parents in the school and they don’t think it’s extreme.
“Even my dad, who’s quite old-fashioned, think it’s stylish. I always send Kain to school in a clean uniform and looking smart.â€
Head teacher Derek Gardiner claimed that school policies are clear regarding hair grooming.
“The school has had a clear policy on hair for a long time.
“It’s part of our prospectus and when you accept a place in the school you agree to accept that,†Gardiner said.
“I’m concerned that Kain is not in school, because he has special needs and we’ve worked hard to support him in a good quality learning environment,†he added.
