Top five gestures that drive people madLondon - Using of hand made inverted commas for sarcasm has been named the most irritating hand gesture used in daily communication.

The action, created by curling the index and middle fingers, beat the “talk to the hand” move as the most aggravating part of communication.

Other non-obscene gestures which angers people are putting a finger to the nose to depict “none of your business” and “blah blah blah” where people touch their thumb and forefinger to imitate a chatty mouth.

And rounding off the top five irritating gestures is the “pistol”, where two fingers and thumb form a gun.

Soft ware developer commissioned the study of 2,000 respondents to mark the launch of iPhone app Goggle Eyes, where a staring monkey follows the user’s eye and head movement.

“Most of the more irritating gestures originated from a need to communicate quickly and transcend language barriers – but it doesn’t take much for a gesture to seem cheesy or informal,” the Daily Express quoted a spokesman for Goggle Eyes, as saying.

The research found that one in four people tried to avoid using hand gestures and that a fifth of Britain’s population were embarrassed by how much they relied on them, while a third said that they were less likely to trust someone who they believed used too many.
