Melbourne - An Australian man, who is the lone winner of the 50 million-dollar Powerball jackpot, revealed that ticket had belonged to his late mother-in-law “and we always knew she would look after usâ€.
The man, from Adelaide’s west, had registered his winning 7-game entry that enabled lotteries officials to contact him with the news just hours after the draw.
He took a few moments to realise that he was holding the multimillion-dollar winning ticket, and said the numbers had special meaning to his family.
“I’ve won 50 million dollars. What a head spin,†News.com.au quoted him as saying.
“The numbers are actually those of my late mother-in-law, and we always knew that she would look after us.
“I’m absolutely speechless,†he said.
The regular player hasn’t yet decided how to spend his newfound fortune as he said that it would take some time for him to comprehend his win.
It was the biggest ever South Australian win in a Powerball draw and continued a run of big lottery payouts this year.
The winning numbers were 7, 25, 17, 28, 2 while the Powerball number was 26.
