Jhinda wants SGPC for Haryana

Chandigarh (IANS)- Seeking a separate Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) for Haryana, Jagdish Singh Jhinda, a Sikh leader from the state, is expecting full support from Haryana's Sikhs.

Jhinda has set up a Sep 15 deadline to take over the Sikh shrines in Haryana from the Punjab-based SGPC that now manages them. He has accused the SGPC of ignoring Haryana's shrines and overlooking the interests of Sikhs living in the state.

"Thousands of Sikhs from all across Haryana will gather in Kurukshetra tomorrow. There we will decide our course of action. We are determined and will not change our mind under any circumstances," Jhinda, who heads an ad-hoc SGPC committee in the state, told IANS Tuesday.

Fearing trouble, the Haryana Police have beefed up security around major gurdwaras in the state including Kurukshetra, Karnal and Ambala.

"There are 72 gurudwaras in Haryana under the direct or indirect control of SGPC. They do not want to leave them as they are earning several crores from them," said Jhinda.
