Thane (Maharashtra) - Four children and two women were killed Tuesday when part of a building collapsed in the Ulhasnagar township of Thane, 30 km from the district headquarters, a municipal official said.
The incident took place late Tuesday evening, according to Ulhasnagar Municipal Commissioner Ashok Rankhamba.
The five-storey building, Sheeshmahal, was 28 years old.
"A part of the slab of a flat on the fifth floor gave way, breaking up the entire room, which fell on the room on the floor below and subsequently on the third floor," Rankhamba told IANS.
Fire brigade officials rushed to the spot and rescued residents of all the 25 flats in the building from the debris. The building has been vacated.
"Four people, including a child, have been injured in the accident. They have been sent to hospital for treatment," Rankhamba said.
