Narayanpatna (Orissa), Jan 25 (ANI): In acts of desperation, Maoists are indulging in mindless violence in Orissa. On Saturday January 23,the banned ultra's blew up a jeep killing four villagers in Orissa.

Maoists triggered a landmine blast under the jeep carrying fourteen people including ten security personnel.

The incident took place when the security personnel were returning after carrying out a search operation in the region and crossing the Pallur village about 12 kilometres from Narayanpatna.

According to police, security personnel had boarded the vehicle at Narayanpatana to reach Laxmipur.

Speaking to ANI, Narayanpatna Deputy Superintendent of Police, Y Jaganath Rao said: "A jeep carrying ten to fourteen people including civilians and security personnel was blasted while they were crossing the Pallur village.

"Two security personnel were seriously injured and four civilians have lost their lives. The injured have been shifted to Naraypatna hospital and their treatment is on," he added.

This is the second attack on vehicles carrying the security personnel in this month.

Earlier on January 15, seven security personnel were killed in a similar attack in Jharkhand's Gumla District

The incident took place soon after Union Minister P Chidambaram held a review meeting on anti Naxal operation with Chief Ministers of Chhattisgarh and Orissa in Raipur on Friday.

In another incident, two workers of the National Mining Development Corporation (NMDC) were injured in Acheli area of Dantewada district, when the Maoists triggered a landmine blast.

The incidents have fortified the Government's determination to put a stop to mindless violence which harms development.

Chidambaram had repeatedly urged all concerned - State Government, political parties, media, civil society and common citizens - to understand the true nature of the Naxal menace and "resolve to put an end to Naxalism." (ANI)
