Violence down in Kashmir, says General KT Parnaik

Jammu - General Officer Commanding-In-Chief, Northern Command, Lt General KT Parnaik has said that infiltration has gone down in Jammu and Kashmir and the defence forces are working hard to keep insurgents at bay.

Interacting with mediapersons on the sidelines of Army Day celebrations here on Sunday,
Parnaik said that the security situation in the valley is good with the Army constantly foiling insurgency attempts by militants.

"I would say that security situation in Jammu and Kashmir is good, the violence parameters have been down. 2011 has been a very fruitful year, we have had a fair amount of peace in the state, however they

(insurgents) have continued to infiltrate across the Line of Control (LOC). We have had numerous occasions to stall the infiltration," said Parnaik.

He further said that speculation is rife that banned militant outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba is training women to carry out militant operations in the Indian territory, however he stressed that such reports have not yet been corroborated by the Army.

"We keep getting these reports from intelligence sources and whatever happens across (the border) as far as the terrorism mechanism is concerned, frequent reports do keep coming to us through sources.

What you (mediapersons) have heard is a report concerning the LeT trying to revive the women .... There is report that they are  near Muzaffarabad to be infiltrated into the state, however this is not yet

corroborated and we have not shared this report officially with the state nor with anyone else. It  will take  some time to corroborate the report," added Parnaik.
