Bhubaneswar, Feb 19 (IANS) The Ahmedabad-Howrah Express narrowly escaped an accident near Orissa's Rourkela station thanks to the timely detection of a crack on the rail tracks, an official said Friday.

"The gangman detected the crack. He immediately alerted the train driver, who applied the brakes," an official at Rourkela railway station said.

The train, which was on its way to Howrah, was halted at Rourkela for over an hour until the crack was repaired.
