Aligarh - A police jeep and a motorcycle were set on fire in mob fury here Tuesday after a truck crushed a 14-year-old boy to death and policemen allegedly let go the killer driver for a bribe.
Several policemen and even press photographers were injured as crowds rained stones and other missiles at policemen who responded with tear gas, witnesses said. Police also used canes.
The victim, Vikas, was hit by a truck while going to drop a friend to school at Khairgarh. He succumbed to injuries in a hospital.
All hell broke loose when some people allegedly spotted policemen taking money to let off the driver of the killer vehicle.
Residents and relatives of the boy jammed the road, quickly joined by over 50 women and a 300-plus crowd.
With most policemen busy with a public rally of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, it took more than three hours to control the mob fury.
