New Delhi - Defence Minister AK Antony has expressed profound grief over the loss of army personnel lives in the line of duty due to massive avalanches at an army post in Sonamarg and at the brigade headquarters forward post in Gurez.
In his message, Antony said his thoughts were with the near and dear ones of the deceased in this hour of tragedy. He wished speedy recovery to the injured.
Antony said the government would provide relief and rehabilitation to the affected families.
About 14 to 17 army soldiers were reported trapped or dead after snow-propelled avalanches hit several districts of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.
Of the seventeen, 14 were feared trapped or dead in Gurez. Three other army men were reported dead in Sonmarg.
Media reports said that some of the bodies have been recovered.
The death toll is expected to rise in both incidents.
