Sonia Gandhi accuses BSP for misusing central funds

Saharanpur/ Hapur -  Congress President Sonia Gandhi has accused the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) for improper use of funds sent by the Central Government for the development of Uttar Pradesh.

"The reason why the state is underdeveloped is because that the money, which Congress party sent to the state government has not been used properly for the work and hence the money ultimately gets into the pockets of the tainted ministers of the state," Sonia Gandhi told a gathering here.

Lambasting the leaders of other political outfits, Sonia Gandhi said that these parties have been indulging in politics for their benefit and have contributed nothing but practiced corruption, fraud and crime.

"The state has done nothing but corruption, fraud, crime and looted people with their bad politics. Why have they done all this? The reason why they have done this is because their goals are not clear. The BSP, the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Samajwadi Party do politics for their benefit and can go at any level to satisfy their needs," she added.

Echoing similar statements, Congress General Sectary Rahul Gandhi said that the opposition parties have done nothing but have been indulging in corruption, crime and atrocities on people.

"Do you remember that we waived off your loan? The Congress party gave a waiver of rupees 60,000 crores. We fought for you in Bhatta Parsaul. What does the state government do here? It snatches away land from the farmers and gives it away to outsiders. When farmers question the move, then they answer with bullets. You know, what happened in Bhatta Parsaul, when I went to Bhatta Parsaul to fight for you then Mayawati and Mulayam Singh Yadav say that Rahul Gandhi has gone mad," Gandhi told a gathering in Hapur.

The sixth phase of assembly polls will be held in Uttar Pradesh on February 28,while the seventh and last phase, involving western and terai regions, will be held on March 3.

The Uttar Pradesh polls are being viewed as an opportunity for major political parties to re-establish their foothold in the country's fifth largest and most populous state.

A new 403-member state assembly will be elected in March. The poll results will broadly indicate trends for the 2014 general elections.
