Delhi government hikes OBC quota before municipal polls

Tuesday - Feb 28, 2012, 11:34am (GMT+5.5)

New Delhi -  Ahead of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi's (MCD) polls, the Congress-led Delhi government Monday decided to hike the reservation for Other Backward Castes (OBCs) in  educational institutes from 21 percent to 27 percent.

The hike, coming into effect from the next academic year 2012-2011, will be applicable to government-aided and non-aided institutions and universities.

The decision was taken in a cabinet meeting presided over by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

"The move will not cause any reduction in the Scheduled Caste (SC) quota," said Dikshit Monday.

The number of admissions in each class and in each discipline would be increased by 12 percent to ensure that the seats available for the General category candidates are not reduced. The  total number of seats will be increased accordingly.
