New Delhi -  Troops from the Indian and Indonesian armies shared their skills in guerrilla warfare in a week-long joint training exercise held at India's elite Counter Insurgency and Jungle  Warfare School at Mizoram's Vairengte that concluded Thursday, officials said.

The exercise, 'Garuda Shakti', aimed at fighting insurgency in various contemporary scenarios, including with use of jungle warfare. This was practiced in a special three-day outdoor  validation capsule training session called 'Chakravyuh', according to Indian Army officers who witnessed the exercise.

The Indonesian national army troops were led by Lt. Col. Gatot Heru Puana of Strategic Reserve Command from the 13th Infantry Brigade. The team comprised of five officers, six  non-commissioned officers and 14 privates, a defence ministry official said in a press release.

Indian troops belonged to the 19th Madras Infantry Battalion of 21 Mountain Division under the Kolkata-based Eastern Command, currently deployed in counter-insurgency operations in the  northeastern sector.
