Seemingly unfazed at being ousted from the Asian Athletics Association, scam-tainted Suresh Kalmadi on Monday said losing the presidential re-election bid to Qatar’s Dahlan Jumaan Al-Hamad has actually given him a chance to work at the “grassroots” level.
“I have no issues today and I congratulate Mr Al-Hamad for being elected as President. I am rather relieved that I will be able to work at the grassroots level in athletics,” Mr. Kalmadi said after losing the vote during the ongoing AAA Congress in Pune.

New Delhi/Colombo -  Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Gamini Peiris Tuesday urged India to reconsider its stand to vote for the US-backed resolution on alleged war crimes committed against  the Tamils.

With Prime Minister Manmohan Singh indicating India is inclined to vote for the resolution, Peiris told his counterpart S.M. Krishna on telephone that India should reconsider its stand,  government sources said.

Peiris said Colombo hoped India will assess its request favourably in view of the "excellent bilateral relations" between the two countries.

Krishna alluded to strong sentiments expressed by various political parties over the issue and said the two sides will remain engaged over it.

Amid pressure from coalition ally DMK, Manmohan Singh said Monday that India was inclined to vote for the resolution if it helped give the Tamils in Sri Lanka equality, justice and  self-respect.
