Amarinder Singh justifies preferential treatment given to Bibi Jagir Kaur in jailChandigarh -  Causing a major embarrassment to the Congress state unit, President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, Captain Amarinder Singh, has justified the preferential  treatment given to former minister Bibi Jagir Kaur in the Kapurthala Prison.

Talking to reporters here, Singh said he himself had given VIP treatment to Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal during their  time in jail.

"I gave VIP status to Parkash Singh Badal and Sukhbir Singh Badal. So, there is no big deal in that. I made new bathrooms for them, so it is not an important thing," he added.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the jail authorities had permitted installation of an LED screen and a satellite connection for Bibi Jagir Kaur in her prison cell.

A special court had on March 30 convicted Bibi Jagir Kaur for the forcible abduction, kidnapping and wrongful confinement of her daughter Harpreet Kaur.

Bibi Jagir Kaur was, however, acquitted of murder charges by the Patiala court.

Harpreet Kaur died in mysterious circumstances during the intervening night of April 20 and 21, 2000 while en route from Phagwara to Ludhiana's Christian Medical College Hospital.

Kamaljit Singh claimed he was her husband and the father of Harpreet's stillborn child, a few days after her death.
