Nanded (Maharashtra) - In a freak accident, two policemen were crushed to death under a truck which fell on them at a firing range on the outskirts of the town here Thursday, officials said. The victims were working under a newly-constructed concrete slab on the roof of the Nanded Firing Range, around 14 km from here Thursday afternoon.
"Around noon, a huge truck, which was shifting sand nearby, suddenly lost control. It veered onto the concrete slab which crashed due to the heavy load of the vehicle," S.M. Pise, a spokesperson for Nanded police told IANS.
While the two policemen were crushed to death, five others were injured in the accident, he said.
Senior officials, including district police chief Shahaji Bhumap and others visited the site and directed relief and rescue operations.
The victims have been identified as Madhav S. Panchal, 26 and Mahesh G. Dange, 27, both working at the Nanded police headquarters.
The Nanded Firing Range has been under repairs since some time with lot of movement of heavy vehicles and material.
