New Delhi, Feb 25 (IANS) Pakistan Thursday welcomed the Indian "focus on terrorism" but said it had done what was "proper" to investigate and put under trial the perpetrators of the Mumbai terror attack.

"India put a considerable focus on terrorism. We welcome this. I did point that terrorism is a global issue, regional issue and local issue," Pakistani Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir told reporters after meeting his Indian counterpart Nirupama  Rao here.

He said the "elements who have proliferated over the years and have no respect for borders...need to be exterminated".

Bashir said his country was "determined to succeed in overcoming this menace of terrorism".
