Thiruvananthapuram - Kalyani Vishnu, a Class 12 student from here, was Saturday declared the top scorer in the Indian School Certificate (ISC) examination, which she passed with 99 percent marks.

"I owe this to my wonderful teachers at the Christnagar School where I studied and also to my parents and, above all, to God Almighty," Kalyani told IANS.

She said she did not go for any private tuition and instead depended on her teachers who taught her at school.

"I want to be like my father who is now a deputy chief engineer with the Kerala State Electricity Board. I have taken the common engineering entrance examination of the Kerala government and have performed well. I wish to study in this city itself," added Kalyani, the only child of her parents.

"I do not know if I am the topper in the country, but know for certain that I am the topper in my school," she said when asked if she was the country's first.

Kalyani secured 97 in English, 100 each in Maths, Physics and Environmental Education, 98 in Computers and 96 in Chemistry. For total marks, the accepted norm is to take the best of five subjects with

English and Environmental Education as compulsory subjects.
