Lucknow -  Soaring temperatures and heat wave has gripped Uttar Pardesh (U.P.), forcing locals to remain indoors, even as the maximum temperature of the state capital Lucknow rose to 43  degree Celsius.

Lucknow Meteorological Department officer JP Gupta said the temperature is three degrees above normal and the monsoon is expected to arrive in the state on June 18.

"The temperature recorded is three degrees above normal. There are no indications of a drop in temperature for the next few days," Gupta said.

The highest temperature of 45 degrees Celsius was recorded in Allahabad.

The roads wore a deserted look, though office goers were visible in minuscule numbers.

Residents said temperatures soared during the afternoon and added that it was difficult for them to venture out.

"Yes, we are facing problems in our work as we are not able to come out of our houses due to scorching heat. The temperature is rising daily, "Mohammad Ibrahim, a local, said.

Weather officials have advised people not to go out in the sun between 12 and 4 P.M. and to take all precautionary measures to protect themselves from the heat wave.
