New Delhi - The 9.37 km Central Secretariat-Kashmere Gate corridor, part of Rs.37,736 crore Phase-III project of the Delhi Metro, could be commissioned by 2015, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said Friday. The new corridor will be an extension of the Central Secretariat-Badarpur line.
Dikshit, accompanied by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation managing director Mangu Singh and other officials, was speaking to the media after inspecting the progress of the Central Secretariat-Kashmere Gate corridor work.
The present Central Secretariat-Badarpur corridor will be extended on both sides, connecting Kashmere Gate in Delhi to Faridabad's YMCA Chowk. It will not only establish a Metro link between Delhi and Faridabad, but also relieve pressure on key stations like Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat and Kashmere Gate.
The Delhi Metro will also link Mukundpur to Yamuna Vihar, Janakpuri West to Kalindi Kunj, and Jahangirpuri to Badli - besides Central Secretariat to Kashmere Gate - upon the completion of Phase-III.
Dikshit said the new route length of more than 103 km under Phase-III would bring city colonies closer to one another.
Expressing the state government's support to the DMRC, Dikshit said: "The DMRC has acquired expertise in completing the projects meticulously within stipulated time period."
"It is also commendable that huge construction work is on without any disruption in flow of traffic and any inconvenience to the citizens," she added.
