New Delhi -  Announcing support for P. Sangma in the presidential poll, the Bharatiya Janata Party Thursday said it will try to get Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee  on board too.

Talking to reporters here, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj said the BJP will try to get support from Banerjee, as well as other non-Congress parties.

“We will try to get her on board,” Sushma Swaraj said.

“Mamata is a senior politician and she has taken a firm stand on this, now it is for her to decide. The logical pursuit of what she started should be to support Sangma,” added her colleague  and Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley.

The BJP also said they will talk to other parties and try to get them on board as well to develop a “larger consensus among opposition parties”.

AIADMK and Biju Janata Dal are already backing Sangma.
