Srinagar - A light intensity earthquake rocked Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir Tuesday, said an official. No loss of life or property was reported from anywhere in the area.

"An earthquake of magnitude 4.6 occurred today (Tuesday), at 3.13 p.m.," Aamir Ali, in charge of the disaster management cell here, told IANS.

"The epicentre was located in southern Xinjiang (China) with coordinates 39.407 degrees north and 77.324 degrees east," he said.

According to Ali, another earthquake of magnitude 4.6 had occurred at 7.45 p.m. Monday with its epicentre at the state's border with China's Xinjiang. It was epicentred 35.83 degrees north and 77.70 degrees east, and 187 km north of Leh town.

The effects of these two quakes were, however, not felt in the Kashmir Valley.

Kashmir is situated in an earthquake-sensitive region and tremors have caused a lot of damage in the region.

A massive quake measuring 7.9 on the Richter scale had rocked both parts of divided Kashmir Oct 8, 2005, leaving more than 40,000 people dead.
