New Delhi - The BJP Wednesday blamed the central government for the ethnic violence in Assam, saying it had failed to halt illegal infiltration from Bangladesh that posed a threat to India and Indians.
Bharatiya Janata Party leader L.K. Advani, moving an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha, said it was the duty of the central government to stop the infiltration by Bangladeshis which he called a "foreign aggression".
"You are allowing this kind of foreign aggression. It is the duty of the government to stop this foreign aggression, and infiltration is foreign aggression. It is a failure of the central government," Advani said, addressing Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who was present in the house.
"Illegal infiltration has caused a major problem for the people of the nation and it poses a great threat to the security of this nation," he said.
Advani added that the government had failed to implement even Supreme Court orders on evicting the Bangladeshi infiltrators from India and sending them back.
Over 70 people were killed and over two lakh people displaced in Assam following violence between Bodo tribals and Bengali speaking Muslims, said to be Bangladeshis.
