Bhubaneswar -  India Wednesday successfully tested its nuclear-capable surface-to-surface Agni-IV missile from a military base in Odisha, an official said.

The new generation missile, which has the capability to hit targets at about 3,500 km away, was tested from a facility off the coast near Dhamra in Bhadrak district, about 200 km from here.

Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) spokesperson Ravi Kumar Gupta told IANS that the test was successful and it met all mission objectives.

On Aug 25, India successfully test-fired its nuclear-capable Prithvi-II missile.

The surface-to-surface missile with a range of 350 km was fired from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur-on-sea in Balasore district, about 230 km from here.

It is India's first indigenously built ballistic missile.

Prithvi, which has features to deceive anti-ballistic missiles, uses an advanced inertial guidance system with manoeuvring capabilities and reaches its target within a few metres of accuracy.
