Last day of BJP meeting: Advani, Modi to take centre-stage

Surajkund (Haryana) - The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will today wrap up its three-day brain-storming sessions at Surajkund in Haryana. Senior BJP leader L.K Advani will address the gathering of over 300 top party leaders.

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's speech will also be keenly watched and assessed.  A political resolution is expected to be passed against the UPA Government's policies and the corruption scandals it is mired in.

On Thursday, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Arun Jaitley, said: "We are not against reforms, but every change cannot be called a reform."

"BJP is committed to reforms which are in national interest. Reforms are not what Western powers define them to be... It is unfortunate that we accept the definition that foreign nations give to reforms," Jaitley said while moving the party's economic resolution at the National Executive meeting.

However, terming the Congress-led UPA-II Government as the most corrupt in the history of independent India, party president Nitin Gadkari said the country needs leadership and vision.

Gadkari said: "UPA Government has achieved new milestones in corruption and broken all records in the past 65 years. Whether in the skies, or on land or under it (2G, Commonwealth, Coal) they have a scam everywhere."

"Now, the country needs leadership and vision. You can donate an eye but not vision. They are looting the country and we have become a rich nation with a poor population," he added.

Taking a dig at the Prime Minister, Gadkari said: "Manmohan Singh is on silence mode...why has become Maunmohan?"

Further describing the UPA as a sinking ship, Gadkari said: "Trinamool Congress's withdrawal proves that the BJP's experiment with a 23-party coalition under Atal Bihari Vajpayee was more successful.

Manmohan Singh-led UPA Government is facing intense pressure from the opposition parties over the slew of reforms announced recently.

UPA Government has also lost the support of the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC), which has withdrawn its support over the move to allow FDI in multi-brand retail, a cap on the number of LPG gas and diesel price hike.
