Team Kejriwal claims people of Farrukhabad want 'clear plus and minus' from Khurshid

Lucknow - India Against Corruption (IAC) activist Kumar Vishwas, who is accompanying Arvind Kejriwal to hold a rally against External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid and the alleged financial irregularities by his Zakir Hussain Trust, on Thursday said the people of Farrukhabad are eager to have a 'clear plus and minus' with their elected representative.

Farrukhabad is the parliamentary constituency of Salman Khurshid, who is facing allegations of irregularities in the Dr. Zakir Hussain Memorial Trust run by him and wife Louise Fernandes.

"People of Farrukhabad are very eager to have a clear plus and minus with their elected representative Salman Khurshid. They want explanation from Khurshid and his wife about their ill-deeds," said Vishwas.

Meanwhile, Kejriwal said that he would appeal to the people to defeat  Khurshid in the 2014 elections.

"Today, we are going to meet the people in Farrukhabad as they were the ones who elected Salman Khurshid. We would appeal the public to dismiss Salman Khurshid in the 2014 elections, as the Prime Minister has failed to do so," said Kejriwal.

"And instead of Salman Khurshid, a specially abled candidate must contest and win the election from Farrukhabad. Specially abled people from across Uttar Pradesh, who have been cheated, will join us in our movement," he added.

The atmosphere has heated up in Farrukhabad, as activists of the ruling Congress Party and Khurshid's supporters are planning to counter Kejriwal's rally by showing black flags.

The police have stepped up security in Farrukhabad to prevent a possible clash between supporters of Kejriwal and Khurshid.

Around 200 additional constables and two companies of the Provincial Armed Constabulary have been deployed and a temporary prison set up.

Khurshid has already warned Kejriwal against setting foot in the area, but the India Against Corruption activist is unfazed.

A few weeks ago, a Hindi TV channel ran a detailed report on how an NGO headed by Khurshid and run by his wife Louise has allegedly been embezzling lakhs of funds meant for the differently-abled.

Khurshid and his wife had come under huge criticism after a sting operation done by news channel Aaj Tak reported that the Union Social Welfare and Empowerment Ministry had granted Rs 71.50 lakh to the Khurshids' NGO for distributing tricycles and hearing aids to the disabled in 17 districts of Uttar Pradesh.
