Seemingly unfazed at being ousted from the Asian Athletics Association, scam-tainted Suresh Kalmadi on Monday said losing the presidential re-election bid to Qatar’s Dahlan Jumaan Al-Hamad has actually given him a chance to work at the “grassroots” level.
“I have no issues today and I congratulate Mr Al-Hamad for being elected as President. I am rather relieved that I will be able to work at the grassroots level in athletics,” Mr. Kalmadi said after losing the vote during the ongoing AAA Congress in Pune.

New Delhi -  The Centre has convened an all-party meeting on December 28 to find a solution to the long pending demand for carving a separate state of Telangana from Andhra Pradesh.
Meanwhile, Congress lawmakers from Telangana met party president Sonia Gandhi here today to thank her for convening an all-party meeting.
Lawmaker Ponnam Prabhakar said they have urged Sonia Gandhi to find an immediate solution and carve Telangana as a separate state.
"All the Congress lawmakers from Telangana have today come to meet Sonia Gandhi and thank her for taking the decision of convening an all-party meeting on December 28 to discuss the matter of Telangana. It was promised in 2009 that Telangana will be formed as a separate state and we hope that the promises made under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi will be fulfilled," said Prabhakar.
Lawmaker Madhu Yaskhi Goud expressed gratitude to Sonia Gandhi for convening the meeting.
"We met honourable congress president for authorising the government or asking the government to convene a meeting of all party to take an opinion and start the process to create separate state that is the purpose of the meeting. We had an excellent meeting with honourable president and we really thanked her for the process, which had stopped and hopefully it will begin by convening all-party meeting on December 28," said Goud.
The four-decade-old demand for Telangana, which is to be carved out of the economically less developed part of Andhra Pradesh, gathered momentum after the Congress party ruled government accepted the demand in principle.
So far, 33 Congress, Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), Praja Rajyam Party and Independent lawmakers hailing from the Telangana region have resigned from parliament and the Andhra State Assembly.
The demand for the separate state has seen violent protests and political power play, with more than 300 people killed between 1969 and 1972.
Several protests and shutdowns had brought Andhra Pradesh to a near halt in 2009 and 2010 as pro-Telangana activists persisted with their demand.
