Third front emerges in Chhattisgarh

Raipur -  Nine of the smaller parties in the state, including Communist Party of India and Communist Party of India Marxist (CPI-M) Monday formed a third front here and announced that they would work in unison to vote out the saffron regime in Chhattisgarh.

Chhattisgarh Swabhiman Manch, Bahujan Samaj Morcha, Gondawana Gantantra Party and Sarva Adivasi Samaj, besides the two key communist parties and three other smaller parties held a rally jointly in Raipur and announced that they would contest the 2013 assembly polls in the state together to present a "viable alternative to people who are fed up with the BJP government in the state as well as with the Congress which leads the government at the centre".

The BJP has been in power in the state since December 2003. Chhattisgarh goes to the polls later this year.

Addressing the rally which witnessed a large turnout of tribal people from the remote Bastar region, CPI leader and former legislator Manish Kunjam said that both the main parties - the BJP and the Congress - were involved in looting "jal, jungle and jamin" (water, forest and land) in tribal areas.

The people should teach both parties a lesson in the 2013 polls, Kunjam said.
