Sri Sri launches campaign to mobilise youths

New Delhi - To channelise the anger of youths against crime and corruption in the country, spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Sunday launched a campaign to involve them in community and social service.

Volunteer for a Better India (VFABI), an initiative by the Art of Living (AoL) foundation, is a platform for citizens inspiring them to pledge an hour to work towards issues like women's safety, corruption, declining child sex ratio, child rights, HIV and AIDS etc.

"People are fed up with crime and corruption. We need to channelise this anger positively to build a society free of violence and evils," said the spiritual guru, addressing the media at the Ramlila Maidan here.

The AoL founder said the government cannot do everything on its own and it is the duty of every citizen of India to perform their duty to make the society better.

"Such campaigns are necessary because once the people are awake and decide to change things around them, the government too will be forced to act," he said.

According to an official of the organisation, interested volunteers can register themselves on the dedicated website-vfabi.org and specify the social cause they would like to be attached with.

"They can give an hour daily or once a week. It's their wish," said Sangeeta Anand, media coordinator of the AoL, adding that people can also create their own event.

"If you want to help the elders in your neighbourhood, create an event on the website and we will help you in getting volunteers," she said.
