Seemingly unfazed at being ousted from the Asian Athletics Association, scam-tainted Suresh Kalmadi on Monday said losing the presidential re-election bid to Qatar’s Dahlan Jumaan Al-Hamad has actually given him a chance to work at the “grassroots” level.
“I have no issues today and I congratulate Mr Al-Hamad for being elected as President. I am rather relieved that I will be able to work at the grassroots level in athletics,” Mr. Kalmadi said after losing the vote during the ongoing AAA Congress in Pune.

Indiabulls office stoned, 2 MNS workers arrested

Two Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers have been arrested after several of them went on a rampage, attacking the Indiabulls office in Mumbai.

This came hours after MNS chief Raj Thackeray said that water meant for drought-hit farmers was diverted to private companies.
Some 10-15 unidentified miscreants, suspected to be workers of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), threw stones at the security cabin of the main entrance of Indiabulls Finance Centre at Elphinstone on Sunday night.

Witnesses said the attackers shouted slogans against India Bulls and in praise of the MNS. They said the whole incident was just a publicity stunt. "They waited till TV channels came and then threw stones and ran away," said one person who asked not to be identified.

"We are investigating who were involved behind the attack," said Prakash Patil, senior police inspector, Dadar police station. He said the police were going through the CCTV footage to identify the attackers.

Meanwhile, India Bulls CEO, Gagan Banga said, "I have nothing to say in this matter."

The centre was relatively empty as it was Sunday and the attack took place at around 8.45pm when around four security guards were posted at the entrance.

"Around 10 to 15 persons who had come on foot started pelting stones in which the glass window of the security cabin broke," said Suresh Wali-shetty, senior vice president, administration, India Bulls Finance Centre. Wali Shetty, a former Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), added: "As soon as the miscreants started pelting stones, our security guards closed the gate due to which nobody could enter inside. All the men ran away after pelting stones."

Earlier in the day, at a public meeting at Amravati, MNS chief Raj Thackeray had strongly opposed supplying water meant for drinking and irrigation to the Indiabulls thermal power project in the district.

Several social workers and politicians from Amravati had taken up cudgels against the project and criticised the government for diverting water for the project. "Why we should give water to the power plant," Thackeray asked.
