Seemingly unfazed at being ousted from the Asian Athletics Association, scam-tainted Suresh Kalmadi on Monday said losing the presidential re-election bid to Qatar’s Dahlan Jumaan Al-Hamad has actually given him a chance to work at the “grassroots” level.
“I have no issues today and I congratulate Mr Al-Hamad for being elected as President. I am rather relieved that I will be able to work at the grassroots level in athletics,” Mr. Kalmadi said after losing the vote during the ongoing AAA Congress in Pune.

Lucknow - Five persons including a child were killed late Friday night in a head-on collision between two motor bikes, police said.

The accident took place at Bhadoiya village in Mallihabad area of the state capital, when 25-year-old Raju was returning from a relative's house. He was hit by a speeding bike coming from the opposite side at the Tikrihaar turn.

The impact of the collision was so severe that the bikes became a mangled heap of steel.

The dead were identified as Rajneesh, his sister Meena, her son Agrim, Raju and Nand Kishore. All the dead were residents of Gagna village, about 80 km from state capital Lucknow.

While three people were killed on the spot, Meena and her son Agrim died at the city trauma centre, where they were rushed by police.

Superintendent of Police (SP) rural Saumitra Yadav told IANS that the bodies have been sent for post-mortem and the families have been informed of the tragedy.
