Seemingly unfazed at being ousted from the Asian Athletics Association, scam-tainted Suresh Kalmadi on Monday said losing the presidential re-election bid to Qatar’s Dahlan Jumaan Al-Hamad has actually given him a chance to work at the “grassroots” level.
“I have no issues today and I congratulate Mr Al-Hamad for being elected as President. I am rather relieved that I will be able to work at the grassroots level in athletics,” Mr. Kalmadi said after losing the vote during the ongoing AAA Congress in Pune.

Anjolie Ela Menon to unveil mural on old Delhi at IGI

New Delhi - Leading contemporary artist Anjolie Ela Menon will open a new chapter in public art April 19 when she unveils her new mural - Walled City - at Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) for visitors to the capital to glimpse a slice of the city's Mughal history.

The mural will be unveiled by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

"Walled City", described by critics as one of Menon's most ambitious works is a 21 feet by 8.2 feet mural of a city street of old Delhi or the old quarters of the national capital.

"This street in a walled city is a microcosm of the Indian street. It is unique to our urban culture that the street is the arena for life itself. This is where people live, work, travel, ply their trades, interact, romance, play, celebrate and protest," Menon said.

"Here human beings and animals co-exist in surprising harmony where tradition and modernity blend seamlessly in a scenario of sound and colour, creating endless street theatre," Menon added.

The renowned artist, who has been working for the last 55 years, is one of the foremost muralists in India.

Over the last 10 years, Menon has moved in scope of her work from standard size painting to large-scale public art installation and big paintings. The mural has been supported by the Vadehra Art Gallery.

Menon said the mural is an ode to the city street presenting a complex canvas of the historical legacy of the ancient Delhi that lives between the blocks of concrete, bustling streets and the tangled electricity wires.
