Chandigarh, (IANS) Haryana Police will provide laptops to every constable in its force in the next three years, a top official announced here Saturday.

The technological upgrade will "enable every constable to keep pace with the other sections of the society in this age of information technology," Ranjiv Dalal, Haryana Police chief said.

The "hi-tech shift" will also help to bring in more transparency and improve the efficiency of the police. "The constables will be able to maintain a better record of the activities of criminals and  exchange required information amidst different branches within no time," Dalal said.

"We are the first state police in the country where each constable has to sit for an online computer-based test for being promoted," the police chief added.

Dalal also said that a national level crime and criminal tracking network system project will soon be started at the Haryana Police Academy, Madhuban, at a cost of Rs. 30 lakh.
