Tamil Nadu Congress legislator dead

Chennai, (IANS) - Congress legislator S. Jeyapaul died Sunday in a private hospital here after an illness.

Jeyapaul, 55, who represented Colachel constituency, is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.

Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi condoled Jeyapaul's death. Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin visited the hospital and paid floral tributes to Jeyapaul.

The funeral will be held Monday at Jeyapaul's native place Peruvilai.

With his death, the Congress' strength in the Tamil Nadu assembly has come down to 34.

Jeyapaul is the eighth member of the 13th Tamil Nadu assembly to have died during its tenure (2006-2011).

Besides Jeyapaul, Congress legislators Sudarsanam and Selvaraj  DMK's P.T.R. Palanivel Rajan, Jayaraman and Periannan, AIADMK's S.V. Shanmugham and MDMK's Veera Illavarasan are the other legislators who have died
