New Delhi (ANI) - President's Estate has acquired International Standard Organisation (ISO) certification for dopting and utilising efficient and eco-friendly conservation methods and water harvesting measures.

At a function attended by President Pratibha Patil here on Sunday, the Bureau Veritas India handed over the ISO 14001:2004 certificate.

With this certification, the President's Estate has become the first urban habitat in the country to be granted ISO following introduction of solar power and waste management system among other energy-efficiency measures under the project 'Roshini'.

To hail this occasion, a formal function was hosted on the grounds of the President's Estate on Sunday.

"What we can do in this small family, is shown through this effort. If this kind of effort is taken elsewhere also, it can make a lot of difference," said President Pratibha Devisingh Patil in New Delhi.

Sunday also marked the completion of three years in office for President Pratibha Patil and second anniversary of the launch of project 'Roshini.

"The most important aspect about this is it's name i.e., Roshini. It means inner light as well outer light. Roshini means a dedication towards a goal and if we work on it, it will make a big difference," said the President.

The project is an initiative that aims at making the President's Estate a green and an environment-friendly habitat in which good practices of conservation and efficient use of resources are encouraged.

Among the host of energy saving measures initiated under Roshini are electronic synchronization of street and security lights with sunrise and sunset, use of energy efficient pumps, lights and equipment and even use of renewable energy sources like solar energy, biogas plant, and piped natural gas.

The certification was one of the goals of the project Roshini that was inaugurated by President Patil in 2008.

Minister of Urban Development Jaipal Reddy, Women and Child Development Minister Krishna Tirath and Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit, were also present on this occasion.

Patil also gave away awards to winners of a painting competition organised recently within the Estate.
