Gill to inaugurate renovated Jawaharlal Nehru stadium tomorrow

New Delhi (ANI) - Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Dr. M.S. Gill will inaugurate a remodelled and reconstructed Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Tuesday.

The inauguration function will be attended by Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dixit, Chairman, Organising Committee for CWG, 2010, Suresh Kalmadi and several sports persons and senior officials of the sports Ministry.

The stadium was constructed during ASIAD 1982.

In order to accommodate the Athletics event of the Commonwealth Games, 2010 in the complex, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) had engaged CPWD as their principal consultant for planning and execution of the stadium.

Today, the new look Jawahar Lal Nehru stadium’s innovative features include a high definition television transmission with 2200 lux, State of Art Sports lighting through 22 Nos. lighting pylons, State of the art PA system for the spectators, supported on catwalk, photo finish room, separate lifts for photo finish room, PTFE membrane Roof of 53400 sqm. Area cantilever over seating area, underground tunnel through arena for ceremony (East end to West End), surface tunnel for Athlete from warm-up to main stadium, 5 no. Accessible ramps, 14 no. lifts and 2 no. escalator, final warm-up inside the stadium building, evacuation time – 6 minutes, Boundary wall with 22 nos. of gates, seating chairs at upper tiers & Lower tiers.

Facilities in Adjacent Blocks include a National Dope Test Laboratory, SAI Headquarter, hostel block.
