Srinagar (ANI) - People's Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday locked the gates of the Civil Secretariat, which houses important offices of the Jammu and Kashmir Government, as a mark of protest against unrest in the valley.

Mufti blamed the Government for the restrictions imposed in the valley and said the people have long been forced to remain indoors due to imposition of curfew and stringent restrictions.

The activists led by Mufti took to the streets holding placards and raising slogans against the State Government.

"Our main aim behind holding this gathering was to lock the Secretariat, which has become absolutely worthless, so they can understand what it feels like being imprisoned. Secondly, people are being affected due to the curfew and somehow these people want to kill the citizens with the help of bullets, curfew and now hunger," said Mufti.

"They want to kill people by suppression and starvation. The people have been facing plethora of problems due to the unresponsive behaviour of the government, which has also failed to provide any relief to the people in need," she added.

Demanding a release of the youth behind the bars, Mehbooba Mufti said the Government has failed to fulfill the basic necessities of the locals.

"PDP has decided that all those youngsters who have been put behind the bars should be set free. Secondly, the relief, which is being submitted, the government is not letting it reach the public. Our main aim is to collect relief for those who are facing problems in the region," she added.

Kashmir has been witnessing a series of demonstrations against the killing of some youths in police firing for more than a month now.

The Central Government had on July 8 deployed the army to prevent the situation from going out of control.
