Government to blame for deadlock in parliament: Sharad Yadav

New Delhi, (IANS) - Janata Dal-United (JD-U) president Sharad Yadav Friday blamed the government for the deadlock in parliament over price rise, saying there was no initiative from its side to solve the matter.

 "The deadlock is not due to us. We have given notices (for discussion) under the rules. There is no initiative from the government," said Yadav, who is convenor of the National Democratic Alliance.

Yadav said he was confident that the opposition will stay united on the issue of price rise.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Friday gave fresh notices for discussing price rise Monday under rules that entail voting.

The Samajwadi Party, which is an outside supporter of the ruling United Progressive Alliance but is with the opposition on price rise, said the government needs to take measures to check rise in prices of essential commodities. "Price rise is hitting farmers, common people. The government is not doing enough," said a party leader.

Government sources said that a solution could be found if both the ruling alliance and the opposition climb down from their positions.

Sources said that among the possibilities being talked about is of the government agreeing to discuss the issue under Rule 184 but drafting the motion in a way that there is no need of voting.

Opposition parties continued to force the adjournment of both houses of parliament Friday, insisting on discussing rising prices under rules that entail voting. The stalemate has continued for the past four days.

The Congress leaders have maintained that if the opposition was so keen on a vote, they can bring a no-confidence motion.
