Seemingly unfazed at being ousted from the Asian Athletics Association, scam-tainted Suresh Kalmadi on Monday said losing the presidential re-election bid to Qatar’s Dahlan Jumaan Al-Hamad has actually given him a chance to work at the “grassroots” level.
“I have no issues today and I congratulate Mr Al-Hamad for being elected as President. I am rather relieved that I will be able to work at the grassroots level in athletics,” Mr. Kalmadi said after losing the vote during the ongoing AAA Congress in Pune.

Panchkula (Haryana), (IANS) A middle-aged eunuch, angered at police's alleged inaction in a case of assault on her adopted son,  Wednesday attempted to commit suicide by consuming poison right outside the Haryana police headquarters here, police said.

According to police, the eunuch was identified as Laxmi, a resident of Hansi town in Hisar district of Haryana.

"She had come here to meet the DGP (director general of police) and police told her to wait outside the office. Then she left the place and returned after sometime. Immediately on returning, she fainted and police officials shifted her to a hospital," said a police officer.

He added: "She had came here after eating some poisonous substance. Doctors have said her condition is stable and she is out of danger. We have registered a case and started our investigation."

Laxmi wanted to meet the state DGP to tell him about the alleged inaction of police in a case of an attack on her adopted son.

"A few months back, my son Ajay was attacked by a group of miscreants in Hansi. In November last year, I had met DGP and he had assured me of justice. But local police are working hand in gloves with the accused and they are giving life threats to my family," Laxmi told reporters.

Earlier, Laxmi had submitted a written complaint against 23 persons, including Hansi deputy superintendent of police and station house officer.
