Uma Bharti vows to transform Uttar Pradesh into New Delhi - After Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to field Uma Bharti from the Charkari assembly seat in Uttar Pradesh, the firebrand leader showed confidence of her victory and assured to make Uttar Pradesh as a perfect state.

"I respect the party's decision. I will perform the responsibility of campaigning for the party that has been put on my shoulders. I am confident of my victory, and believe that post winning I would transform Uttar Pradesh into Uttam (perfect) Pradesh," Bharti told the media.

Earlier, announcing her candidature, party president Nitin Gadkari said, "There had been talks that Bharti should be fielded in the assembly elections. I met her and decided to field her in the elections...We are confident that she will win."

"She would contest as a candidate of the BJP from Charkari constituency. Bharti would also be the star campaigner in Uttar Pradesh, during which she would be undertaking several public rallies in different parts of the state," he said.

"She would play a big role in campaigning for the BJP. I am declaring her contestation from Charkari constituency. I would further like to give her my best wishes and I believe that she will become victorious and lead the state successfully," he added.

He also gave her best wishes and hope she would become victorious in upcoming assembly polls.

The polls are being viewed as an opportunity for major parties to re-establish or strengthen their footholds in the country's fifth largest and most populous state.

Polls in Uttar Pradesh are to be conducted in seven phases between February 8 and March 3. The counting of votes would take place on March 6.

Uttar Pradesh will elect a new 403-member state assembly in March, and the poll results are expected to broadly indicate trends for 2014 general elections.
